What can we expect from our equity market post-election?  Given that our market is undervalued, it’s possible that certain outcomes could trigger strong returns.  But what needs to happen for this to be realised and what’s the likelihood of it happening?

The NinetyOne investment team recently identified 3 likely scenarios for our election.  They then allocated a probability for each scenario to come true. The highest probability was assigned to a scenario where the ANC loses ground but ends up with 43-47% of the votes.  In this scenario, the ANC would need to form a coalition with a small party, which should be relatively easy for them to do.  This outcome would be regarded as a positive for our equity market.

The snapshot below shows all the different scenarios and probabilities allocated by the NinetyOne investment team.  Interestingly, their analysis predicts an 88% chance of a positive outcome, where we could see the market rally by between 15-30% from current levels.

Listen

This month’s podcast is about the fascinating world of nonverbal communication with Blake Eastman, the founder of The Nonverbal Group.

Blake delves into the subtle, yet powerful, ways we communicate through body language and nonverbal cues. As I listened, I realised it's not just about observing others but also about becoming more aware of our nonverbal signals. This awareness can significantly enhance our ability to communicate effectively with clients and gain deeper insights into their needs and concerns.

Learn

Being the primary caregiver for a loved one who is ill, whether it's a spouse or a parent, can place a heavy toll on your life. Not only does it demand a significant portion of your time and energy, but it often requires sacrificing personal pursuits, and social engagements.

There may also be a financial impact due to the loss of income from reduced work or needing to leave work to care.  Many choose to become caregivers due to the high cost of professional care, nurses, or frail care facilities.

Emotionally, the constant worry and stress of witnessing the decline of someone you love can lead to feelings of isolation, depression, and burnout.

This article touched me deeply, as I have seen this in my own family.  Despite the challenges mentioned, it is crucial for caregivers to prioritise self-care.  This may involve seeking support from family, friends, or support groups and utilising care services to take breaks and recharge.  Seeking professional help from therapists or counsellors can also provide valuable emotional support and coping strategies.

Ultimately, caregiving is a selfless role.  But it is also often a fulfilling role that leaves many caregivers with an extraordinary sense of gratitude despite the hardship of it.  However, It is critical to recognise one's needs as a caregiver and seek assistance.  This is just as important as caring for your loved one.

Careful financial planning and scenario analysis can help identify ways to support your well-being as a caregiver.   Please reach out to us if we can assist in this regard.

Ponder

In this section, I invite you to take a moment and think about a question I may pose or a thought I may share.

Past spending reflects your habits and what’s important to you.  When did you last analyse your past spending?  And what did you learn about what’s important to you?\

Oenophilia

“Oenophilia simply refers to the enjoyment of wine, often by laymen.”

I’ve never really enjoyed sweet wines, but over the years I’ve learned that a quality sweet wine can be exceptional! I love a sweet wine after a meal instead of a traditional dessert.  My go-to treat is Donkiesbaai Hooiwyn, which is smooth and sweet, with hints of apricot and honeycomb.

Sweet wines are traditionally a little higher in alcohol than other wines, which may be required, given that it’s an election week.

I hope you enjoyed this month’s edition.
